But he gives more grace. Therefore, it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:6
He must increase, but I must decrease.
John 3:30
Pride before the fall. We here that all the time and I think that we just shrug off the idea and realization of pride way too often. Sometimes I think that we as humans get so blinded by our own pride that we miss a lot of things that are placed in front of us. Pride is an issue that needs to be tackled and it needs to be tackled right now, but you can’t tackle it on your own, like all other struggles you need Christ and others to help you through these things.
So how do I relate with others who struggle with pride? Well, I am one of those people who struggles with it. Now the way most people see pride is in the way or form of having a haughty attitude and thinking that it is all about you, and that is right. My personal struggle that I didn’t realize was a form of pride until a few weeks ago was that I beat myself up so much and thought no one cared for me and I missed all the pride that was in the middle of self-pity. The thing with pride is that it is all about self, whether you think you are the greatest in the world or if you think you are the biggest nobody in the world, they all deal with self.
Pride is evident all throughout the world most especially in the sports. The one place where everyone has to be the best and the only way to make it is if pride is in front. So yes, it is hard but what are we doing about. Usually the answer is nothing. We do nothing because a lot of the time we are already so blinded we don’t realize what we are doing. The biggest reason we don’t want to leave pride behind is because that means we have to leave ourselves behind and focus on someone else { namely Christ}. That’s why I used John 3:30, He must increase and I must decrease, because pride is that block in the way of Christ increasing and you decreasing. So, give it up, give yourself up and leave pride behind. All it does is hinder.
