Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.” As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply;
their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
or take their names on my lips. The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the LORD who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me.
I have set the LORD always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 16
This has been one of the many verses that has helped me in this season of my life. First let me tell you why this has been such a long season for me. It all really started in November when on and off my family was gone. Nothing felt normal except when I went to youth group or church on Sunday. I went to bed every night shaking and feeling lonely. I even had very emotional moments where I would just start crying almost uncontrollably. It was the worst and greatest time in my life.
I call it the worst time of my life because it felt like I was in a whole other world and nothing made sense to me. During this time I was wearing a mask, trying to hide who I was and my emotions. If you ask me how to describe this time in my life I will give the same answer I always do and that is I really don’t know.
Here comes the great part….
God will not abandon you. Boom! Not once in this entire season of my life did God leave me. Long, restless nights became calm, quiet nights and tears turned into immeasurable joys. No matter how much the world pushed me down God was right there to pick me up. That is what is so amazing about my God, He won’t forsake any of you no matter how lonely you feel.
My encouragement to all of you is my story of God never leaving me. David is also a wonderful example of God always being there. Just read the Psalms and you will see what I mean. It doesn’t matter how much this world beats you down, God is always. I wrote this poem/psalm of my own that I would like to share.
My Anchor
I look around and see pain,
It hurts just to think about it.
I can’t cure this kind of pain but I know who can,
His name is Jesus Christ and He won’t fail you.
When we fall to the bottom His hand is the one that still holds on.
When we can’t find our way out, He found us and made us new.
When we don’t know how to do something
He is our example.
He died on a cross for us, the debt we deserved.
The love we want was shown by Him on that cross.
What we try to hide he already knows.
He is our guide in the darkness,
He is the One True King,
He is my God,
He is my Savior,
He is my Anchor.
