Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to Him with the harp of ten strings! Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully on the string, with loud shouts.
Psalm 33:1-3
This whole blog is just going to be me telling you what God has done through me with music and encouraging All to lift their voices and sing to the Lord. First things first I love music and how it is made. I don’t know how to play any instruments and I am not a great singer, but it is just something about listening to music that hits the spot. God has used music to make my heart burn for others, He has used it to burn my own heart.
There are certain songs that really inspire me to Do Something and a couple of them aren’t even Christian they are just more quiet and peaceful songs. One of the songs lately is called Life by Sleeping at Last. It isn’t a Christian song but for some reason it just pushes me to GO. Go to broken, rich, needy, intimidating and many others. The main urge I get when I listen to this song is wanting to help kids. Another song I get hit by is a song called No Man Is An Island by Tenth Avenue North. They are a Christian group that I really love listening too. This song just really hits me because it shows us that it doesn’t matter who or what you have done, there is still Hope. Yes those things made you who you are but If you look to God and repent and believe in Him nothing is Impossible, and how it shows us our need of community. That when a fellow believer is falling we need to be there to help them get back up. The last one although it seems like there are a thousand more is Lord I Need You by Matt Maher. This song shows Believers and non-believers their need of God. When I feel lonely I listen to this song because it just helps me look towards the Lord in tough or exhausting times.
Second I just want to encourage All to praise the Lord. He doesn’t care if your voice is terrible or if you think it is, Praise Him. Everywhere in the Psalms it says praise him with song, lift your voices, play instruments. Now what I also would say in this day and age is be very discerning about what your singing, Christian and secular. It goes both ways. I’m not saying don’t listen to secular music but just be discerning. I hope this is encouraging and will just help you if you have been hiding behind that “well if I move my lips a little then I will be okay syndrome.” Just go lift your voice to the Lord and praise him.
I always think about worship more when my throat is sore or I can’t sing for some reason. It makes me glad that I have a voice to use, and it also reminds me that worship of God is seated in the heart and not the voice.
